Honest Conversation

I don't think anyone would actually say this to God (or at least admit that they did), but I'll be the first to admit that I will say this, at least "constructively."  (Yay, law school terminology!)  What I mean to say is that even if I flat-out don't say it, I might as well have.  And I've been in the church long enough to know this isn't an uncommon problem.

How are you, really?  Have you been hiding your true attitude from God?  From yourself?  In what ways do you need to repent?

I consider honesty with God to be a good thing. I once read a book called A Baptist Among the Jews, and the author wrote about how there's kind of a Jewish tradition of arguing with God. He always wins, of course. But I loved that and have certainly argued with God since then.

I never read that book, but I'll have to look into it. I think it's easy to pretend that everything's OK with you and God when clearly things aren't. But if we aren't honest about the way we feel, we're never going to be able to address it and make things right. It's not like God doesn't already know how we feel anyway.
